How a top-to-bottom, high-contrast overhaul redefined both the look and flow of this slick boarding house
Gutted to a brick shell, this century-old property owes its open-plan transformation to the work of Post Architecture, whose design anchors the space with a striking, centralized kitchen. Standing in contrast to the home’s all-white interior, the kitchen’s tall, lacquered cabinetry and blackened blue, panelled appliances create a bold, modern aesthetic. A delicate sliver of white-painted tile in the backsplash subtly nods to the home’s original charm, blending the new design with the residence’s historic character.

The layout is now well oiled: cooking and prepping functions are kept tight to one side, the edge defined by a crisp Corian island with fixtures to match, for an uninterrupted flow of movement between living and dining functions. Post Architecture complemented these simultaneously bold and efficient techniques with a cushy bistro-style seating nook in white millwork and a butler’s pantry in deep navy, which stores help-yourself items like coffee and cereal—keeping traffic away from the compact kitchen’s main cooking area.
