The much-loved, artisan-packed OOAK Show has returned
Running November 25th to December 5th at Enercare Centre, Exhibition Place, the 2021 One of a King Show returns for an in-person event (last year was online only) with some 400 makers and artists. This year’s theme, Crafting Joy, encapsulates the elation we are all feeling about interacting with the artisans in person once again. Experiencing the products up close, from textural ceramics and jewellery to linens, leather goods and gifts of all kinds will surely raise our spirits. OOAK21 showcases experienced and emerging makers from across the country. And in a year when shopping locally seems not only enjoyable but also practical, our hearts feel full supporting these Canadian talents. Read on to learn about some of the stand-out exhibitors showing off their wares.
Q&A Design
Booth K-12
Toronto-based Q&A Design was founded in 2014 by French architects, Pierre Quesnel and Coraline Allard. Melding their architectural minds and creative energies, the couple designs and fabricates original objects and pleasingly unexpected custom projects, including wall dividers, and organic structures. Using locally sourced wood and metal, their high-quality pieces include birdhouses, lunch boxes, jewellery boxes and public projects all bearing their unique stamp.
Light & Paper
Booth, G-04
Intricate hand-cut papercuttings are taken to the next level with Light & Paper’s engaging designs. Founder Ali Harrison takes the original paper version then scans and digitally converts it to be laser cut. Wielding an X-acto knife, Harrison creates housewares and art pieces with intricate detailing. We love her anatomical series (especially the heart!), and her leaf and flower compositions. Tactile and detailed, these unique works of art are endlessly fascinating.
Mt Prospect Studio

From Niagara Falls, Ontario, Jenny Santos brings a beautiful, organic feel to her handmade clay works. Studies in form and fashion, Santos’ pieces are a delight to the hand and eye. With her background in sculpture and installation, she brings a fine art approach to her works, which are unique takes on everyday objects. We love her unglazed hanging planters and vessels, fruit bowls and ceramic-glazed candleholders.
Fabrizio Sclocco

Beautiful, emotional and pure are some words that come to mind when taking in the works of artist Fabrizio Sclocco. The Italian-born Torontonian’s mixed-media paintings, line drawings and hand-embossed works are breathtakingly honest in their execution. He is able to capture a special juncture of figurative and abstract work that feels timeless and contemporary at once.
Modernist Wood

Who doesn’t love a mobile? These handmade beauties are the design of Ottawa’s Danielle Jones using sustainable and reclaimed wood. Their retro appeal will evoke dreams of mid-century icons, while their organic shapes will impart a sense of movement to any space. With an aim to create heirloom quality and modern Canadiana, Jones crafts wall masks and these sweet mobiles.
