Honest Ed’s Sign Gets an Encore Performance

Restoring and displaying the iconic sign at the Ed Mirvish Theatre ensures a lasting tribute to a beloved Toronto landmark.
The show must go on. When Honest Ed’s closed at the end of last year to make way for rental towers, it seemed that developers were set to demolish its infamous exterior signs. And yet, David Mirvish – son of Ed – has had a change of heart. Now, the team will restore and install one of the shuttered bargain superstore’s nine-by-18-metre displays on the side of another local building from Mirvish lore: the Ed Mirvish Theatre on Victoria Street, where flashing marquee lights are especially fitting.
